Steel Process over Broom Philosophy.

It is not a question of ‘or’, but that of ‘and’. Broom is a basic household material that is used to sweep and clean a household environment. The philosophical meaning of broomstick is greatly relevant but may just not be enough besides there are now scientifically better ways of cleaning the floor; with stick vac or canister vacuum, made up of steel metal and plastics, you get better results and faster too. It is easy to make reference to the broomstick philosophy but we must instead talk more about the materials that make up the broomstick or perhaps the process, since forging does not apply here as in the case of steel. Broom is made out of plants, grass, hay or corn husk.

Broomstick does the job of house cleaning but a canister vacuum does the same job even better. The existence of brooms precedes the vacuum cleaner. The latter came as a result of enhanced research and development. In a wider culture, the traditional broomstick can also take different forms and meanings.

  1. Witchcraft and ceremonial magic ‘besom broom’. The first recorded case dates back to 1453, confessed by the male witch Guillaume Edelin.
  2. Marriage termed as jumping the broom. This practice is well attested for as a marriage ceremony for slaves in the Southern United States in the 1840s and 1850s who were often not permitted to wed legally

Uses of steel from iron, includes the construction of roads, railways, other infrastructure, appliances, and buildings. Most large modern structures, such as stadiums and skyscrapers, bridges, and airports, are supported by a steel skeleton.

Cross Examination of Process versus Philosophy

Strength is a needed ingredient to forge unity. It is risky to put unity ahead of strength. I agree the relationship is two way but individuals must be encouraged to work hard and build personality and a strong self sense. An amalgamation of these strong, hardworking and resilient individuals fortifies the group and solidifies ‘strength in unity’. Preaching unity has never been enough, we have seen the Romans and the Greeks in the middle ages from 400–1500 AD, and currently the might of the United States and China. It is true that the broomstick philosophy has worked for these countries at different times and up till now, individualism is encouraged and rewarded through capitalism, building and growing industries and intentionally, improving the educational and health system. Our unity will never stand the test of time without strong individuals. The working practical examples are abound,

In football and sports generally, the best teams are armed with the best players, best managerial and coaching staff, and a wealthy portfolio. There may be few outliers of exceptional players in mid-table or lower position , but every season, big clubs come knocking. Few of the small teams do pose a threat some of the time but they struggle to reach the champions pedigree, though they have stayed united and strong from the lower league to the first league, they still cannot cross that threshold. Those talented individuals in the best teams are not broomsticks but steel and so when they are selected to function in a group, they become almost unbeatable better than lesser teams that are largely constrained by poor management, limited spending, low talent pool of players and so even when they train hard and come together as one, they fail to compete with the best clubs. This instance is applicable to the less advanced economies mostly in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

The broomstick is not the go-to when preaching strength or kingdom, it talks about unity and community. I believe in individualism to group, groups are strong and firm because the individuals that make up the group have on a personal and on first basis level, attended and graduated with summa cum laude from the school of hard knocks; enduring pain, efforts, applying strategy and hardwork and on their own rise like the Dark Knight. It is true that we need unity but the character and will of the members of the group is far more important and must always come first. Again, we have seen communities, states, and countries and even continents become ineffective and also surrender their power to more established communities, states and countries. We have seen human capital flight from Africa to North America, Europe and Asia in a steady increasing number on a daily basis.

In this present world, strings of steel trumps a bunch of broomsticks. The philosophy of the latter is based on ancient tribal roots and it’s a long-serving saying that preaches togetherness but may not stand the test of time. The concept emphasizes that a broomstick is weak and breakable but a bunch cannot be broken. In this present competitive age where human thinking has evolved tremendously, one does not need hands to do the job. If the objective of the doer is to break a broomstick, then there are scientifically proven ways of doing that seamlessly. I prefer the thought process move towards the steel philosophy.

Steel bars formed from Iron and Carbon

What separates a prison from the rest of the world? Iron bars made up of steel not brooms. What cleans better than the traditional broomstick made up of plants? The canister vacuum is made up of iron from steel. What builds bridges and connects the world? Steel.

The broomstick philosophy is useful but inadequate. The philosophy opens up toxic behaviours like the feeling of self entitlement, laziness, not putting enough effort and expecting manna to fall from heaven.

Final Wrap

A single steel forged out of iron is better than a broomstick. Steel is needed to put difficult and heavy materials together, cast and build gates, walls, cars and heavy machinery, the process is different and special as such the true philosophy must be backed by a reliable and dependable process.
